In a world where so many of us carry the weight of the day in our neck and shoulders, the grounding and releasing act of an Indian Head Massage offers something quietly powerful.
The benefits of Indian Head Massage are both immediate and cumulative. A single treatment can bring a profound sense of calm and mental clarity, whilst regular massage supports longer term wellbeing.
Among the most commonly reported benefits are relief from tension headaches and eye strain, reduced shoulder and neck stiffness, improved scalp circulation and hair condition, deeper and more restful sleep, reduced anxiety and mental fatigue, and a renewed sense of calm and energetic balance.

Traditional Indian Head Massage works with the soft tissues and energy channels of the upper body. The treatment typically addresses the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp, face and sometimes the ears, using a special sequence and combination of rhythmic massage strokes, acupressure techniques and gentle mobilisation of the joints.
Oils such as coconut, sesame, almond or brahmi oil are traditionally used on the scalp, each chosen for their specific nourishing and therapeutic properties according to Ayurvedic principles. That said, oils are entirely optional, and the treatment is equally effective and deeply relaxing without them, making it suitable for those who prefer a dry treatment or have sensitivities.
The sequence I use in my treatments draws on a tradition that is thousands of years old. Rooted in Ayurvedic knowledge passed down through generations of Indian families and healers, the order and rhythm of the movements are not arbitrary. Each step follows the natural flow of energy through the body, working progressively from the upper back and shoulders, releasing the deeper layers of tension before moving through the neck, scalp and face. This sequencing reflects an accumulated wisdom about how the body holds stress and, more importantly, how it lets it go.
